Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near ASCENSION WOOD on 18th September, 1918. On seeing the line was held up by Machine Guns, he took his gun and section forward and from a shell hole well in front he engaged the enemy guns. These he finally silenced and the advance was then able to continue. later again when the line was checked before BIG BILL Copse he, as he had remained in front of the Battalion, was able to give covering fire thus materially assisting in the capture of the copse. It was only due to his own grit and determination, when he and his section were subjected to heavy fire, that covering fire was maintained.'
