Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was one of a daylight raiding party, and when some enemy small posts commenced sniping, with an officer and another man,he dashed forward and captured the post; he also took another isolated dug out where the men surrendered. The complete success of the raid was greatly due to his courage, dash, and determination.'
