'At Cross Roads, 21/4 miles South East of WYTSCHAETE on evening of 17/8/1917. Gallantry under fire:- He was acting as guide to a carrying party which came under heavy fire. Several men were wounded and the remainder scattered. Sapper LUPTON dragged one man to shelter and then, regardless of his own risk went for a stretcher, which he obtained, and with the assistance of another man, carried the wounded man away. He set a splendid example of coolness and courage under very trying conditions.'
