'South West of METEREN on night 23rd/24th June this N.C.O. was No. 1 on Lewis Gun in moving forward in an attack with leading platoon. On arriving at the first objective the enemy were seen to be prepared to resist our attack. This N.C.O. although wounded, dashed forward with his gun and fired from the hip, killing several of the enemy. This action no doubt assisted the platoon in gaining the objective and is worthy of the highest recommendation for displaying such courage and initiative.'
