'For great gallantry and skill at the attack of Lihons, 11 August, 1918. When the enemy had broken through on the left, he carried a message to the companies to warn them of the situation. This necessitated passing through a wood, when he was continuously sniped. On several occasions he delivered messages although subjected to heavy fire on the way.'
