Military Medal

'At DEMICOURT on 9th April 1917 for coolness and courage during our attack on the German possition. He rendered excellent service while on patrol with Lieut. SAMPSON prior to the assault on the village. He was placed in charge of the right half of the patrol on enetering the village and handled his men with great boldness and skill, driving the enemy form that portion of the town. When the enemy, fifty strong, counter attacked, soon afterwards, he immediately disposed his men behind a bank and opened fire. He materially assisted his patrol leader (Lieut. SAMPSON) in driving off the Germans with heavy losses, and set an excellent example of personal disregard of danger to the men under his command.'
