Wounded in action, 16 May 1916 (gun shot wound, hip), and admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance; transferred to 2nd Lowland Casualty Clearing Station, 18 May 1916; to 35th General Hospital, Calais, 20 May 1916; to England, 10 June 1916, and admitted to 3rd Southern General Hospital, London. Discharged on furlough (undated), to report to No 1 Command Depot, 7 November 1916.

Commenced return to Australia from Avonmouth on board HS 'Karoola', 22 February 1917; disembarked Melbourne,10 April 1917; discharged Melbourne (medically unfit), 14 May 1917.
