Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous good service and devotion to duty. On the night of 28 March, 1918, he took over command of his platoon when his platoon officer was wounded, and handled it with skill and judgment. In the difficult patrolling which took place at Sailly-le-Sec, he was in charge each night, and his reports were always thoroughly reliable and his patrols were always led with dash and skill. He has continually proved himself a thoroughly reliable and gallant platoon leader.'

On the 8th August, 1918, during the attack on the enemy's position east of HAMEL, Sergeant MACAULEY was in charge of a Platoon when, by his fine leadership and the manner in which he controlled his Platoon fire, he greatly assisted in the severe defeat which the enemy suffered. He also rendered valuable assistance by covering fire to the Platoons on his flanks. During the operation he successfully captured several dugouts containing many prisoners. Throughout the operations he displayed much bravery and set a very fine example to his comrades.'
