Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his section into action, and encountered a strong enemy machine gun position. He, single handed, put the gun out of action, and captured it. Later, he showed great initiative, courage, and coolness in reorganizing his men and directing a counter attack, thus saving his flank and inflicting heavy losses on the enemy.'
