Found guilty at Codford, 3 January 1917, of overstaying leave, 1.00 am, 3 January, to 7.30 pm, 4 January 1917: awarded 1 day's detention; forfeited total of 4 days' pay. Found guilty at Codford, 22 March 1917, of being absent without leave, 9.30 pm, 11 March, to 9.00 pm, 12 March 1917: awarded 30 days' Field Punishment No 2; forfeited total of 41 days' pay. Found guilty at Codford, 12 April 1917, of (1) escaping from detention, and (2) being absent without leave, 1.00 pm, 10 April, to 9.30 pm, 11 April 1917, and (3) being in Stockton without a pass: awarded 8 days' Field Punishment No 2; forfeited total of 10 days' pay. Found guilty at Codford, 27 April 1917, of (1) being in Codford without a pass, and (2) being improperly dressed at Stockton, 24 April 1917: awarded 5 days' Field Punishment No 2. Found guilty, 30 April 1917, of failing to attend parade, 27 April 1917: sentenced to forfeit 8 days' pay.

Proceeded to France through Folkestone, 9 May 1917; marched into 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 10 May 1917. Transferred to England for general base duties, 29 May 1917; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 12 June 1917.

Found guilty at Weymouth, 14 July 1917, of conduct to the prejudice of good order, 13 July 1917: awarded 28 days' detention.

Commenced return to Australia for Home Service, 22 July 1917 (over age).

Found guilty at Cape Town, 30 August 1917, of failing to embark on HT 'Nestor', 28 August, and remaining absent without leave until 10 pm, 29 August 1917: awarded 7 days' detention; to detention barracks, Wynberg, 30 August 1917. Found guilty at Cape Town, 17 September 1917, of overstaying leave, 10.00 pm, 15 September, to 10.00 am, 16 September 1917: awarded 4 days' confinement to barracks. Found guilty at Cape Town, 24 September 1917, of drunkenness: awarded 3 days' confinement to barracks.

Commenced return to Australia on HMAT 'Benalla', 27 September 1917; disembarked Sydney, 26 October 1917, for onward travel to 1st Military District. Discharged as being unfit for military service, Brisbane, 23 November 1917 (over age).
