'For gallantry and devotion to duty on 1 October, 1918, along the north east road from Damascus. This non-commissioned officer did exceptionally good work in bringing his guns into action several times under very heavy fire. At Khan Khissier, though fired at from all directions he worked his guns with splendid effect on retreating enemy, strewing the road with enemy pack animals and personnel.'
