Taken on strength, Composite Light Horse Regiment, Heliopolis, 20 November 1915; taken on strength, 6th Light Horse Regiment, 18 January 1916.

Left knee injured by horse, 9 August 1916.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Ascanius', 2 September 1916.

Re-enlisted, 23 January 1917, as 3130, Private, 6th Light Horse Regiment, and embarked in the 24th Reinforcement from Melbourne on board HMAT A42 'Boorara', 10 May 1917; disembarked Suez, 20 June 1917. Taken on strength, 6th Light Horse Regiment, 1 August 1917.

Wounded in action (gun shot wound, right wrist) and reported missing, subsequently confirmed as taken prisoner of war by Turkish forces, 28 March 1918. Mother received a letter from him dated 12 April 1918, written from a hospital in Damascus, which was the first confirmation of his being alive.

Repatriated to England, 8 February 1918. Marched in to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 27 January 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Port Denison', 25 March 1919; discharged, 12 June 1919.

Also served in World War II: enlisted 5 March 1942; died, 9 June 1942.
