Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in command of the right platoon of the division in an attack, and it was largely owing to his splendid coolness under fire and in the face of heavy opposition that direction was maintained. He kept touch with the division of his right, captured two objectives, and showed great skill in the consolidation. He set a fine example to his men. (Since decreased).'
