Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He displayed the greatest coolness whilst constructing a strong point under continuous heavy fire, inspiring confidence in thos working in the vicinity, and rendering first aid to the wounded. It was due to his energy that the work on his sector was completed in time, although under close observation and repeated shelling of the enemy.'
