'During the attack on LIHONS on 11th August 1918 Lance Corporal MAITLAND was in charge of a section on the extreme left of the battalion front. Throughout the whole engagement he maintained direction and kept in touch with battalion on flank, keeping his officers informed as to their movements the whole time. When the objective was reached this N.C.O. went forward with a patrol and got in touch with the enemy bringing back invaluable information as to their dispositions and numbers which he obtained by engaging several points of his line. Throughout the action his coolness and courage were of the greatest assistance to his Company Commander.'
