Tried by Field General Court Martial, France, 11 June 1918; found Guilty of desertion from 9 October 1917 to 30 March 1918: sentenced to 15 years' penal servitude.

Sentence commuted to 2 years' imprisonment with hard labour, 10 August 1918.

Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 21 August 1919; discharged to No 2 Group, Sutton Veny, 11 October 1919; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 52 days.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Nestor',1 November 1919; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), Brisbane, 16 January 1920.
