Disembarked, Egypt, and joined Miscellaneous Reinforcements, Tel el Kebir, 5 May 1916.

Embarked Alexandria, 28 May 1916. Proceeded overseas to France from England, 16 August 1916; taken on strength, 14th Field Company Engineers, 30 August 1916.

On leave to United Kingdom, 20 November 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 8 December 1917.

Detached to 5th Division Sanitary School, 10 March 1918; rejoined unit from detachment, 18 March 1918.

Wounded in action, 24 April 1918 (gassed), and admitted to 15th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 4th Casualty Clearing Station, and thence by Ambulance Train No 3 to 5th General Hospital, Rouen; admitted, 25 April 1918. transferred to England, 27 April 1918, and admitted to Norfolk War Hospital, Norwich, 28 April 1918; to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 22 May 1918; discharged on furlougfh, 24 May 1918, to report to No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 7 June 1918. Found guilty, 8 June 1918, of being absent without leave, 11 am, 7 June, to 9.30 pm, 7 June 1918: admonished and forfeited 1 day's pay. Admitted to Group Hospital, Hurdcott, 21 June 1918 (influenza); marched in to No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, from hospital, 25 April 1918. Marched in to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 16 October 1918. Found guilty, 12 October 1918, of being absent without leave from midnight, 8 October, to 3 pm, 10 October 1918: awarded 7 days' confined to barracks and forfeited total of 2 days' pay.
