'Private Marpole was of great assistance to Medical Officer in attending to wounded during attack on HINDENBURG LINE SOUTH OF REINCOURT on April 11th, 1917. He was carrying out his duties under heavy Machine gun and Rifle Fire also frequent shelling by enemy Artillery. He worked energetically and courageously throughout and displayed a praiseworthy sense of devotion to duty and an utter disregard to his own safety.'
