Memorandum from Lt-Gen H.G. Chauvel to Minister for Defence: '[Marshall] 'admitted on 29th July 1918, at Richon-le Zion, Palestine, to having committed a gross indecency with a male person at Richon-le-Zion on the 24th July 1918. The circumstances were particularly revolting, and it was not considered desirable to try him by Court Martial. He is being returned to Australia by the Transport Wiltshire under surveillance. It is recommended that he be discharged from the A.I.F.'
