'During the attack on the BEAUREVOIR Line, east of PERONNE, on 3rd October, 1918, this N.C.O.'s platoon met with strong resistance at MUSHROOM QUARRY. He was in charge of a Lewis gun section, and alone crawled through the enemy wire with his gun and outflanked the enemy post. He kept up a heavy fire on the post while the remainder of the platoon got through the wire and captured the post. It was a most difficult and dangerous task that this N.C.O. accomplished on his own initiative, and through his action undoubtedly many casualties were saved '
