Military Cross 'On 22nd July 1918, near Villers Bretonneux, an enemy trench close to our lines was causing heavy casualties and endangering the position. This officer, dashing out at the head of his men in the face of heavy fire, quickly entered the trench, killing a large number of the enemy, and capturing five machine guns and several prisoners. His gallantry, coolness, and powers of leadership were most marked.'
