Military Medal 'During the advance near LE VERGUIER on the 18th September, 1918, Lance Corporal MARTYN noticed an enemy machine gun holding up the advance of the company on his flank. he skilfully worked himself into a favourable position, and bringing his Lewis gun into action quickly disposed of the hostile machine gun and enabled the advance to continue. Later, an enemy machine gun opened fire a few yards in front of his Platoon. With incredible swiftness MARTYN brought his gun into action and annihilated the hostile gun crew. His prompt action undoubtedly saved his platoon many casualties. He set a fine example of dash and courage.'
