Military Medal 'On the afternoon of September 3rd 1918, near ALLAINES North of MONT ST QUENTIN and North East of PERONNE the enemy placed an exceptionally heavy barrage of shell fire on our trench (known as Brunn Trench) where at least 100 men were accommodated. Lance Corporal MASTERS who is a stretcher bearer showed extraordinary bravery and coolness in bandaging the wounded and carrying them to a place of safety. This was done during the bombardment under very heavy fire which lasted over three hours. His action saved many lives and his utter disregard of personal safety set a fine example to other stretcher bearers.'
