Military Medal 'For great gallantry and devotion to duty. During operations at HAPPLINCOURT, south of PERONNE, on August 29th/30th., he was in control of the parties carrying cork float material to his Officer, and assisting him in the construction of his footbridge. On night August 30th/31st., he again in control of the delivery of all material from the dumps, carrying from points 20 to 30 yards in rear of our advanced posts to points 300 yards in advance of our outposts, over a machine gun swept area. He distributed material to two bridge building parties. On 4th September in daylight, he assisted his officer in building a motor transport bridge in PERONNE, 1,000 yards from the enemy, who were holding FLAMICOURT. He has throughout the operations exhibited the highest courage, and has set an extremely fine example to the men of his Section.'
