Admitted to 8th Australian Field Ambulance, 21 November 1916 (not yet diagnosed); transferred to No 1 New Zealand Stationary Hospital, Amiens, 22 November 1916 (vomiting); by Ambulance Train No 5 to Havre, 29 November 1916; to England, 2 December 1916, and admitted to Hursley Camp Military Hospital, 3 December 1916 (dilation of myocardium); to No 3 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 16 January 1917; discharged on furlough, 14 February 1917, to report to No 4 Command Depot, Wareham, 19 February 1917. Marched out to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 14 March 1917. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 7 April 1917; discharged, 3 May 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 27 days. Marched out to 3rd Training Bn, Durrington, 30 May 1917. Found guilty, 6 August 1917, of being absent without leave from guard mounting, 5 August 1917: awarded 28 days' detention. Readmitted to Bath War Hospital, 29 May 1918 (tram accident: cut lip and right side injury, severe); transferred to 3rd AAH, 19 June 1918; discharged on furlough, 20 June 1918, to report to No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 4 July 1918. Found guilty, 9 July 1918, of being absent without leave from 11 am, 4 July, to 5.30 pm, 8 July 1918: awarded forfeiture of 10 days' pay; total forfeiture: 15 days'. Marched in to No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 9 July 1918; marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 3 August 1918.
