Military Medal 'During the operations along the MENIN ROAD of 20th/21st September, 1917 in the vicinity of POLYGON WOOD he was employed as a Company Runner. He carried out difficult and dangerous work with the utmost cheerfulness, displaying a very high standard of courage. After the Company was relieved he volunteered to remain and do another run to the front line from HOOGE, to accompany an Officer of his company on the reconnaissance of the forward area, thus entailing an additional twelve hours work in a very dangerous area.'
