War service: Egypt, Western Front

Joined 5th Light Horse Regiment, Maadi, 7 January 1916. Taken on strength, 14th Field Artillery Brigade, Tel el Kebir, and posted to 55th Battery, 27 March 1916; mustered as Driver, Ferry Post, 8 April 1916. Transferred to 5th Divisional Ammunition Column, 3 May 1916.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 20 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 30 June 1916. Regimental No altered to 1592A, 28 August 1916. Found guilty, 19 December 1916, of absenting himself from 7 am parade, 18 December 1916: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Remustered as Gunner, 9 January 1917; transferred to 12th Field Artillery Brigade Ammunition Column, 25 January 1917. Transferred to 112th Battery, Belgium, 21 September 1917.

On leave to United Kingdom, 15 November 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 1 December 1917.

Detached for duty with RBAA, Heytsbury, England, 30 September 1918; marched in to RBAA, 3 October 1918. Charged with being absent without leave, 2359, 29 November, to 0800, 20 December 1918: charge dismissed.

Marched out for duty with Australian Army Service Corps Training Depot, Codford, 15 January 1919; marched out on Special Leave (12 days), 22 February 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board HMAT 'Nestor', 1 November 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 15 December 1919; discharged, 15 February 1920.
