Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on VILLE-SUR-ANCRE near ALBERT on 19th May, 1918. This N.C.O. was No. 1 on a Lewis Gun and during the whole of the operation displayed great coolness and personal bravery. His hip firing during the advance was very effective and inspired confidence in the sections on either side of him. On reaching the objective he pushed out to give covering fire to the garrison who were consolidating. When daylight broke it was found that his Gun was in a very exposed position, and it appeared as if he would have to withdraw, but he was able to maintain his position, and kept up a continuous fire on the enemy in the vicinity.'
