'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations near BRAY on 22nd August, 1918. His platoon Officer having been sent away on duty just prior to the attack, Sergeant McCALLUM took command, and, despite severe casualties and under heavy enemy bombardment, he succeeded in establishing his portion of the Advanced line and held it until relieved.'
