Admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance, Belgium, 11 October 1916 (defective eyesight); rejoined Bn, 18 October 1916.

Admitted to 3rd Australian Field Ambulance, 14 October 1916 (bronchitis), and transferred same day to Rest Station; to 3rd Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 28 November 1916; to England, 3 December 1916, and admitted to Hurley Camp Hospital. discharged on furlough, 3 January 1917, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 25 January 1917.

Marched out to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 17 March 1917, for return to Australia.
