Military Cross 'During the attack on Montbrehain, on 5th October 1918, on the company commander becoming a casualty he took command and led the company forward until held up by heavy machine gun fire. He immediately rushed it, bayoneted an officer and took the crew prisoners. On gaining his objective he made a reconnaissance, and established posts. Having collected a quantity of captured enemy guns, he placed these in advantageous positions in his posts, where they were used with great effect on the enemy. Throughout his work was of the highest order.'
