War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 21 October 1916; disembarked Devonport, 28 December 1916; marched into 3rd Training Bn, Durrington, 29 December 1916. Found guilty, 22 January 1917, of overstaying leave from midnight, 18 January 1917, until 0800 hours, 21 January 1917: awarded 72 hours' detention and total forfeiture of 6 days' pay. Admitted to Parkhouse Hospital, 4 March 1917 (mumps); discharged, and marched into 3rd Training Bn, 22 March 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 5 April 1917; marched into 1st Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 6 April 1917. Proceeded to unit, 9 April 1917; taken on strength of 10th Bn, 10 April 1917.
