Embarked Alexandria on HMTD 'Grampian' and proceeded to join British Expeditionary Force, 22 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 28 March 1916.

Admitted to 2nd Australian Field Ambulance, 10 July 1916, and transferred to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train '1', 11 July 1916; to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne, 11 July 1916. Embarked Boulogne on HT 'St. David' and proceeded to England, 12 July 1916; admitted to 2nd West General Hospital, 13 July 1916 (bronchitis). Taken on strength of 1st Training Bn from No 1 Command Depot, 12 September 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 8 October 1916; marched into 1st Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 9 October 1916. Transferred to 13th Bn from 3rd Bn Hospital Details, 19 October 1916, and taken on strength, 20 October 1916. Transferred to 3rd Bn, 24 November 1916, and taken on strength, 1 December 1916.
