'During the night of 19th September, 1917, Pte. McDONALD was on traffic duty at ZILLEBEKE corner near YPRES. The enemy commenced to shell his post very heavily and one shell blew up a small bomb dump in the vicinity. On seeing a wounded man crawling about amongst the exploding bombs, Pte. McDONALD, at great personal risk, succeeded in dragging the man out of danger. He was severely wounded in the shoulder in so doing.'
