Military Medal

'During the operations from September 20th and October 7th, 1917 East of YPRES this N.C.O. has continuously shown marked courage and devotion to duty at all times carrying out his duties with the utmost coolness and determination. One instance of this occurred while the Battalion was proceeding from the support trenches under an enemy barrage. One of his comrades was found to be missing. Without hesitation and regardless of personal safety, knowing that he had almost passed the barrage zone, he returned to the shelled area and rescued the man, who was dazed and concussed and brought him into safety.'
