'C.Q.M.S. McDONOUGH was an original member of the 5th Battalion. He joined 57th Battalion on its formation in EGYPT and his work for the Battalion has at all times been of the very highest order. He has shown an untiring desire and careful forethought for the welfare of his Company and has always been dependable in any situation. He has invariably ensured the safe passage of hot food and rations to his men. He was wounded near VILLERS CARBONNEL on night 29th August whilst endeavouring to get hot food forward to his Company. His valuable service deserves recognition.'
