'For marked and consistent gallantry, ability and devotion to duty during the period 25 February 1918 to 16 September 1918. In handling the supply of ammunition he has behaved in a most exemplary manner. His courage and cool determination in overcoming obstacles in the course of carrying out his duties under heavy shell fire have always set a most excellent example to the men under his charge.'
