Admitted to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station, 9 October 1917 (ICT feet); transferred to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne, 11 October 1917; to No 7 Convalescent Depot, 14 October 1917; to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, 15 October 1917; to England, 16 October 1917; admitted to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital Harefield, England, 19 October 1917; discharged on leave, 2 November 1917; reported to Hurdcott Command Depot, 16 November 1917; marched out to overseas Training Bn, Longbridge, Deverill, 22 November 1917; proceeded overseas, 12 December 1917; marched in to Havre, France, 13 December 1917; marched out to join unit, 16 December 1917; rejoined unit, Belgium, 26 December 1917; declared 'Illegal Absentee', 9 April 1918; rejoined Bn, France, 12 June 1918.

Field General Court Marshal held on 21 June 1918: charged with 'when on active service, deserting his M.S. in that he, on 9 April 1918, having been warned for a part. Duty. Namely himself without leave and did remain so until apprehended near Amiens on 8 June 1918.' Found not guilty of desertion, but guilty of being absent without leave: sentenced to 6 months Imprisonment with hard labour; GOC. suspended the sentence, 11 July 1918.

Admitted to Casualty Clearing Station, 15 July 1918 (gastro enteritis); discharged to duty and rejoined Bn, 21 July 1918; taken on strength of 19th Bn, 24 July 1918.

Killed in action, France, 31 August 1918.
