Admitted to Field Ambulance, 28 August 1915 (gastro-enteritis), transferred same day to HS 'Gascon'; arrived Alexandria, 1 September 1915, and admitted same day to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Luna Park, Cairo.

Transferred to Signals Section, 4 September 1915.

Transferred to A&NZ Convalescent Hospital, Helouan, 14 October 1915.

Admitted to No 3 Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 20 October 1915 (jaundice).

Rejoined 2nd Bn, Tel el Kebir, 20 January 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 22 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 28 March 1916.

Wounded in action, 26 April 1916 (gun shot wound, eye and scalp), admitted to Field Ambulance, transferred same day to No 7 Casualty Clearing Station, and then to No 13 Stationary Hospital, Boulogne (ruptured left eye: severe); discharged to duty, 8 May 1916.

Admitted to No 13 Stationary Hospital, 17 May 1916 (anophalmos); transferred to England, 19 May 1916, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, 20 May 1916; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 29 May 1916; to Montovideo Camp, Weymouth, 20 June 1916.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Marathon', 8 August 1916; disembarked Sydney, 24 September 1916; discharged (medically unfit: gun shot wound, left eye), 11 December 1916.
