War service: Egypt, Gallipoli

Joined unit at Gallipoli, 7 May 1915. Found guilty, 30 June 1915, of being drunk when on active service: awarded 7 days Field Punishment No 2. Admitted to 1st Field Ambulance, 3 September 1915; transferred to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 4 September 1915; to St Patrick's Hospital, Malta, 10 September 1915 (asthma); to England, 13 October 1915, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, 19 October 1915.

Found guilty, 6 December 1915, of being absent without leave, 20 November-6 December 1915: awarded 17 days' detention, forfeited 17 days pay. Found guilty, 15 January 1916, of being drunk, using obscene language, resisting escort: awarded 168 hours detention. Found guilty, 8 March 1916, of being absent without leave, 13 December 1915-14 January 1916: awarded 17 days detention, forfeited 33 days' pay. Found guilty, 28 February 1916, of disobedience and insolence: awarded 72 hours' detention.

Returned to Egypt with 27th Draft on board 'Minnetonka', 25 March 1916. Admitted to 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital, Tel el Kebir, 24 April 1916 (asthma); transferred by Hospital Train to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Abbassia, 14 May 1916; to No 1 Auxiliary Hospital, Abbassia, 10 June 1916 (chronic bronchitis).

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Clan McGillivray', 10 July 1916 (for discharge); discharged, 27 September 1916.
