War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney on HMAT 'Hororata', 2 May 1916; disembarked from HT 'Aragon', Plymouth, 23 June 1916. Found guilty at Larkhill, 28 June 1916, of (1) drunkenness, and (2) damaging government property, 27 June 1916: awarded 30/- fine. Proceeded to France through Southampton, 21 November 1916. Admitted to 9th Field Ambulance, 7 June 1917, and transferred to Casualty Clearing Station (gun shot wound, left arm); admitted to 56th General Hospital, Etaples, 8 June 1917. Embarked Havre on HS 'Essquibo' and proceeded to England for further treatment, 10 June 1917; admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, 12 June 1917; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 23 July 1917; discharged on furlough, 1 October 1917. Marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 15 October 1917. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Runic', 20 December 1917; disembarked 2nd Military District, 14 February 1918.
