Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on right of PROYART on 22nd August, 1918. This N.C.O. was in charge of a stretcher bearer Squad attached to a Battalion R.M.O., and during the advance wmade by the Division he advanced under a heavy Machine Gun fire over open country and established an aid post ahead of the Infantry as soon as the barrage lifted, thus making preparation for the evacuation of the wounded. From there he directed the evacuation throughout the whole day. His supreme courage and cheerful bearing under heavy shell fire during the rest of the day acted as an incentive to the squad under his charge, and materially assisted the R.M.O. in the clearance of his R.A.P. In the line at all times he inspires the greatest confidence in his squad of bearers by his personal bravery and cheerful energy.'
