Military Medal 'During the attack near MONT ST. QUENTIN, North East of PERONNE, on 2nd September 1918, this N.C.O. was left in charge of his platoon, which encountered terrific machine gun fire during the advance. By his personal example, showing an utter disregard for danger, this N.C.O. led his platoon on by short rushes, handling his sections so well that he outflanked and overcame each of the enemy strong points. He also rendered valuable assistance to the Company on his flank, enabling them to advance after being held up. He moved about in the open under exceptionally heavy fire, setting a fine example to all ranks, and instilling confidence in his men. Throughout the whole operation, his gallantry, skill and initiative in handling his men, was largely instrumental in capturing the positions and minimising losses.'
