Embarked Melbourne on HMAT 'Ulysees', SERN 70, 22 December 1914.

Evacuated from Gallipoli and admitted to 1st Australian Stationary Hospital, Lemnos, 27 May 1915 (rheumatism, tonsilitis). Proceeded to Malta on HS 'Neuralia', 31 May 1915; admitted to St. Andrew's Hospital, Malta, 4 June 1915; disembarked from 'Seang Bee', Alexandria, 16 July 1915.

Embarked Alexandria on HMT 'Knight Templar' and proceeded to join Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, 18 July 1915.

Admitted to hospital, Gallipoli, 23 August 1915 (gun shot wound, back and left chest).

Admitted to Lewisham Military Hospital, England, 9 September 1915 (severely wounded); discharged to depot, Weymouth, 25 February 1916. Commenced return to Australia on 'Suevic', 11 March 1916; disembarked Sydney, 22 April 1916. Discharged, 9 October 1916.

Re-enlisted Sydney, SERN 3674, 16 April 1917.

Embarked Sydney on HMAT 'Euripides', 31 October 1917; disembarked Devonport, 26 December 1917; marched into 14th Training Bn, Hurdcott, 27 December 1917.

Reported absent, 15 February 1918; declared illegally absent by Court of Inquiry, Codford, 12 March 1918. Discharged from the Australian Imperial Force, 1 April 1920, in consequence of desertion, 15 February 1918, to 1 April 1920.

Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, restored by the provisions of Army Order No 298/1920 on 5 August 1946.
