'South of STRAZEELE, on the afternoon of the 11th July, 1918, a farm occupied by the enemy was captured by us. There were various enemy posts on the right of this farm with machine guns, which were troubling the garrison of the position as they were digging in. Two of these enemy posts had already been captured and the enemy were everywhere alert. In spite of this, when a party was organised to drive the enemy out of these posts, this N.C.O. gave the greatest assistance to his Officer, both in leading and directing the men and in working round the flanks of the posts and then crawling up and bombing them. Two enemy posts were captured in this way, 14 of the enemy being taken, 9 killed and 3 wounded; 2 machine guns being brought in and 2 others put out of action. He displayed great initiative and ability to lead men, as well as great courage throughout.'
