Admitted to HS 'Neuralia', 17 July 1915 (dysentery); transferred to Malta and admitted to Intafa Hospital, 24 July 1915; transferred to Ghain Tuffiah, 9 September 1915; to England, 26 October 1915, and admitted to Beaufort War Hospital, Fishponds, Bristol, 4 November 1915; discharged to No 1 Command Depot, Parkhouse, 20 October 1916. Taken on strength, Australian Detachment No 3, Parkhouse, 20 October 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 30 December 1916; taken on strength, 12th Bn, in the field, 9 January 1917. Wounded in action, 14 April 1917 (compound fracture, left femur; multiple wounds left thigh and leg), and admitted to 3rd Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 9th Casualty Clearing Station.
