Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry during the action near BULLECOURT on May 3rd, 1917. On reaching O.G.2 this man rendered most valuable services in leading a trench clearing party against the left flank. This party suffered severe casualties and it was only due to the energy and example of Private BENNETT that the enemy was held at this point until assistance arrived. Throughout the action this man proved himself to be a cool resourceful bomber and his presence exercised a marked influence upon those around him. On several occasions he brought up further supplies of bombs under heavy artillery and Machine Gun fire.'
