Military Medal 'At ARMENTIERES on the night 26th/27th February, 1917, on the occasion of a raid by a Composite Battalion of his Brigade on the enemy trenches, he acted as one of the leading scouts in the first party of his Company. In approaching the enemy's front line all the members of his party but himself were wounded, and he himself was bombed by the enemy. He jumped into the enemy trench, shot down a German bomber, and lead his Company in. He subsequently showed great courage and devotion to duty during the operation. Strength of raiding party - 21 Officers, 804 other ranks.'
