'For conspicuous courage and devotion to duty as a stretcher-bearer in the operations near DERNANCOURT South West of ALBERT ON 5TH APRIL, 1918. He tended and dressed the wounded in a position where he was exposed to enemy Rifle and Machine Gun fire, and also assisted greatly in carrying the wounded to the Regimental Aid Post. His coolness and bravery during this operation were most praiseworthy.'
