'For conspicuous gallantry under fire. On 31st May 1916 at Croix Blanche, Petillon Sector, France, McKenzie was on duty as sentry when the billet occupied by his Company was heavily shelled. He dressed the wounds of a man who was hit on the road near his post and remained at his post under shrapnel and H.E. fire until ordered into the adjacent shell slits.'
